Note that you should place small perches near the water’s edge or even in the water, so that the birds can use them as they are drinking. Alternatively and approach to follow would be a more natural looking theme and to do this you could dig a small pool right in the center of your garden for the birds.

But make sure to make a shallow one of no more than one or two feet in depth. When your pool is a fairly wide one you must also add a small rock or two in the center part of the bird’s pool where any of birds can land if they want to.

You may not know this but when birds become comfortable with your yard they will then build nests there even close to your house. Basic shelter areas for birds in a natural setting is provided by thick and dense foliage so that if you have got a garden of any size then please do some basic cultivation to help them to grow and flower each year.

Thick bushes and trees with dense leaf coverage will attract birds the most times as they will see that the cover is both camouflage and protection for their young and themselves from predatory hawks.

• A species known as the “Skuas” is a sea bird resembling a gull that inhabits various cold aquatic regions.  This angry bird chases other birds and makes them drop or cough on their food, basically it like being mugged!

• More bird facts:  A gull-like “Sheathbill” bird from the Antarctic is an incredible predatory bird that will feast on dead fish, eggs and young baby birds as well as seal and bird droppings.

• The African southern carmine “Bee Eater” bird actually picks up a bee and will scrape the bee’s “butt” against the bark of a tree in order to remove the stinger part, before eating it.

• A male “Sand Gouse” bird will fetch water for his youngsters by soaking himself in water and then let his youngsters feed from his feathers.  These are found in Asian and African desert regions.

• Emu‘s based in Australia actually run after storm and rain clouds so that they can find water.  Crazy or what?

• A “Scarlet Macaw” parrot based out of south America will eat clay taken from riverside deposits, believed to help it deal with and process toxic seeds eaten earlier.
